WHAT ARE TERMITES?

Termites, also known as “white ants” are closely related to the cockroach and are part of the order of insects called Blatella. They are social insects and work within a colony structure.

Termites play an essential role in nature by recycling fallen trees, limbs and stumps and return nutrients into the soil.

WHAT DAMAGE DO THEY DO?

Out of over 300 species of termites throughout Australia, only some are destructive to our buildings and timber structures. These few species are responsible for tens of millions of dollars of damage to buildings and property throughout Australia each year.
Termites are very secretive and silent, eating their way through timber from the inside and leaving just a thin veneer to protect them from the outside.

DETECTING THEIR PRESENCE

Understanding how termites work is the key to discovering their presence in a building, and applying an eradication plan and preventative strategy.

Only an inspection by a trained professional can reveal the hidden presence of termites, their entry route into the structure and any potential problems that may be conducive to termites entering a building in the future.

INSPECTION & ERADICATION

Stewarts believe that one of the most important elements in the protection of buildings against termite attack is constant monitoring.
Regular inspections, by a licensed pest controller, are essential. A Stewarts inspector will be able to discover hints and clues of termite presence, long before a householder becomes aware of them.
If termites are present on a property, the eradication of the colony helps reduce the chance of further damage to the building. Stewarts have a range of options available to monitor the presence of termites and to eradicate them.
Stewarts have been applying chemical barriers for many years to protect buildings from termites. Some people prefer not to use toxic chemicals around their home. There are alternatives.
Stewarts have available a number of non-chemical monitoring programs, and low toxic products available. Call Stewarts Pest Control for an obligation free assessment of your property.

Termite Perimeter Treatment

A termite barrier is when termiticide is applied around the perimeter of a building to form a barrier to prevent termites gaining entry into the structure. This will protect your home and protect the inside of your cavity walls from around the edge of the concrete slab. This is done by drilling and injecting chemical around the outside of the building or under the building where accessible. When quoting for termites, we will need to attend your home and measure up your property. Prices go purely based on the size of your home (building perimeter) and the conditions surrounding it. Sometimes customers are unsure if what they are seeing are termites, and this is why we asses the situation before providing a quote!

Termite Traps, Baiting & Monitoring Stations

Termite baits are placed into specially designed stations for termites to feed on and take back into the nest. The baits are highly cellulose and are a preferred food source to wood for termites, in most cases.
Monitoring stations are gadgets used to detect the presence of termites. These unobtrusive termite bait stations are placed around your property to detect termites.
Termite Traps can be installed at your property, which will allow you to monitor for termite activity around your property. The termite traps are placed around the house to help detect termites. They are full of highly attractive food sources.

Visual Termite Inspection

We inspect in the roof, inside the building, under the floor (if applicable) and the surrounding grounds within a fifty meter radius. The Stewarts report details any visual live termites at the property. It will tell you where the termites are and how extensive the infestation is. It will also detail what species of termite was found at the property. The report goes over any past visual termite damage. This is very important especially if you are purchasing a property. If there is extensive visual termite damage in the roof, or other areas of the property it may need to be replaced. The Stewarts report also details any high risk areas. This is so you can help prevent termite infestations at the property and you are aware of these areas. The Stewarts report will detail what type of building it is, if there are any areas that we are unable to gain access to and why. It will also say whether we recommend gaining access to any areas.
