Portuguese Millipedes Control

We offer two forms of treatment including a residual spray and a catcher.

Residual Spray

We can treat around the perimeter of your home. This leaves a residual and is very effective against the Portuguese Millipedes. Once the Millipede comes in contact with the chemical, they will pick it up and will not enter the home.

We also suggest cleaning up decaying leaves, bark chips and other garden litter to reduce areas of shelter.

The Millipede Catcher

This is a Western Australian invention by two gentlemen that live in the Perth hills area. They have developed an environmentally friendly way to reduce the number of millipedes at your property.
The light attracts the millipedes, where they then fall into a specially patented catcher that does not allow the millipedes to crawl out.
They are all made from recycled plastic and double as a garden light.

Why do I Suddenly have Portuguese Millipedes?

Portuguese Millipedes live underground in the soil most of the year. Rainy weather in spring and autumn stimulates there activity and can cause a sudden outbreak on top of the land and in peoples homes.

Portuguese Millipede Treatment Service Agreement
(free treatment period)

All Portuguese Millipede treatments come with a 3-month service agreement. If your pest comes back within these 3 months, we will go back and retreat free of charge.

Why is this important?
When purchasing products such as electronic equipment you receive a warranty. This warranty comes in handy if something breaks and you need to get it fixed. When it comes to pest control, it is very similar. Pests are unpredictable, and some infestations are harder to control than others. This is why Stewarts offer a Service Agreement with most of our pest control treatments. It's your safeguard and your quality service guarantee!

More about Portuguese Millipedes

The Portuguese millipede originates from south-west Europe. They were first recorded in Western Australian around Roleystone and are spreading around the metropolitan areas. Originally Portuguese Millipedes were only along the Darling Scarp from Kalamunda to Byford.

Millipedes have a smooth, cylindrical body, which distinguishes it from the native species around Perth, which have a bumpy look. Native millipedes are usually found in low numbers and are widespread. Portuguese millipedes congregate in large quantities, especially after rain.

Portuguese millipedes will curl up into a tight spiral when disturbed or try to escape with thrashing snake-like movements.

Although Portuguese millipedes are not harmful to humans, they are a severe nuisance when hundreds or even thousands of them invade houses. They are one of the few millipede species that are attracted to lights at night. Millipedes can cause damage to vegetable and plants in the same manner as snails. They can also cause damage if they get into electrical equipment.
