Termidor

In 2002 Termidor was introduced. At the time Stewarts embraced this new product.  Over the last 14 years we have found it to be one of the most successful termite barrier chemicals around.

Some other chemicals act as repellents. So the termites that come directly in contact with the chemical die and the other termites that have detected the chemical just continue along the barrier until they locate a breach or gap in the barrier.

Once they have established a path into the building they can enter undetected. Termidor on the other hand is non-repellent to termites. So the termites exposed to lower concentrates of Termidor don’t detect the chemical and will not try to avoid it. Therefore the termites will continue to forage through the affected soil unaware that they have been affected and that their days are numbered. If they make it to the stronger applied chemical then they will die on contact.

As termites are social creatures and live in colonies, when an affected termites returns to the colony they share the infection around, other termites then become affected and are then doomed. Through this unique “Transfer effect”, the chemical can cause some of the nest to be killed off or in some cases the entire nest. This process is aided by the fact that Termites may take weeks to die depending upon the concentrate of Termidor that the termites have been exposed to.

When applied the chemical moves through the soil away from the building and creates a buffer in the soil that has a decreased concentration of chemical the further it is from the building in the soil.

Termidor is one of the most tested termite chemicals on the market. It has been tested in Australia in all states, and passes with flying colours. When tests were carried out it was found that control of termites can happen in as little as five to nine weeks. When applied at the correct rate the chemical has a life span of up to eight years (providing the chemical has not broken down).

Termidor is a safe chemical once it has dried and bonded with the soil. It has no odour, and is water based. It is essential that the chemical be applied at the correct rate to have maximum impact on the termites.

Once the chemical barrier is applied Stewarts recommend that an Annual Termite Inspection be carried out (as per Australian Standards). This is to ensure that the chemical barrier has not been broken down or been bridged, and to make any recommendation to prevent the barrier being broken down or being bridged.

Termidor Inside-Out Controls Termites.

The performance of Termidor has been proven around the world, in all types of conditions, and in the most difficult-to-control situations.

Termidor has been extensively tested under Australian conditions, including the treatment of 22 termite-infested houses across five states under an experimental use permit. The results were outstanding. In every state, 100% control was achieved within 9 weeks. On average, termite activity was eliminated within 4.3 weeks.

CSIRO Forest Products continues to monitor Termidor treated soil trails in Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria and South Australia, with excellent results observed against Australia’s major termite pests Coptotermes acinaciformis and Mastoermes darwiniensis even 8 years after treatment.

Termidor has been used in more than 50,000 structures in Europe and more than 2.6 million structures in the USA. Termidor use is expanding rapdly throughout Asia. In Thailand, Termidor is now the biggest selling termiticide in the most difficult tropical locations.

Similarly, Termidor Dust has been extensively tested, in the laboratory and the field, against all the major timber feeding subterranean termites in Australia, including Coptotermes, acinaciformis, Schedorhinotermes and Mastoermes darwiniensis. In all field trial sites, termites have been eliminated from the treated structure (house, stump, garden bed, tree, post) and from the central nest has been positively identified. In nearly all cases, this has been achieved within 2 to 4 weeks after treatment.

Termidor and the Environment.

When applied according to the label directions, Termidor has minimal impact on the environment. Termidor is applied at some of the lowest doses of any of the termiticides available today, and the active ingredient has been registered in household pet products in Australia since 1996.

Termidor has been assessed by the Commonwealth Department of Health and Ageing, and is fully approved for use in domestic and commercial situations.

Termidor is water-based and has no odour. Termidor will not leach through soil and is not damaging to soil microorganisms, earthworms and plants. The Termidor  Inside-Out program provides highly effective, long-term residual termite control.

With a unique mode of action, the Termidor Inside-Out program will not only eliminate the current activity (including the nest) but will provide proven protection against termite entry and sill continue to control termites for at least 8 years.

When compared with other termiticides, Termidor has consistently provided termite control over a significantly longer period. Termidor also controlstermite populations more rapidly than baiting systems which rely on attracting termites to begin to work.
