Meat ants

Meat ants are native to Australia. They are found mostly in country areas. They are very territorial and if they are interfered with they become very aggressive. When their colony’s territory is invaded, large numbers of meat ants rush out of the nest to defend themselves and their territory. These ants bite will bit the intruder as they do not sting.

They generally build their colonies in large open areas like paddocks and dirt tracks that have a top layer of soil. Meat ants main food source is animal materials and honeydew. They have a strong odor when crushed and are about 13-14mm long. They are red and black in colour.
