Termites

Termites are White Ants

Termites cause more damage to homes in Australia than fire and storms combined.  And because they work deep within the fabric of a building they often do extensive damage before they are discovered.  Termites are social insects and live in colonies containing a number of different castes of the same species.  Each caste has a different form and function, each is vital to the viability of the colony.  In general terms the life history of all the economically important subterranean species is similar.

The Queen Rules

The queen can produce up to 2,000 eggs a day.  These are taken to the nursery by the worker termites, and looked after until they develop into workers or soldiers and can work for the colony.  The Queen controls the colony and directs its members to seek out food supplies and build and maintain the nest and colony structure.  The nest is usually in the ground, often under the roots of a tree.  By building protective mud leads, the termites can tunnel up to one hundred meters in search of food, usually timber.  Once they find your house they can access it through minute cracks or gaps, or they can build their leads over constructions in order to get at the timber structure.  They work deep inside the timber, eating it out from within.  They may do damage for many years before being discovered, and in the time could cause the timber structure to fail.

Inspections

StewartS believe that one of the most important elements in the protection of buildings against termite attack is constant supervision.  Regular inspections, preferable by a licensed pest controller are important.  A StewartS inspector will be able to discover hints and clues of termite presence long before a householder becomes aware of them.

Eradication

If termites are present on a property the eradication of the colony is helpful in reducing the chance of further damage to the building.  StewartS have a range of options available today to monitor the presence of termites and to eradicate them.

StewartS have been applying chemical barriers for many years to protect buildings from termites.  Some people prefer not to use toxic chemicals around their home.  Now there are alternatives.

StewartS have available a number of non-chemical baiting programs, and low toxic products available.

Call StewartS Pest Control for an obligation free assessment of your property.
