Norway Rats The Norway rat is the largest of the pest rats and has a larger body, blunt snout, smaller ears and a tail shorter than its body length. It can have a six litter’s a year and has a life span of about twelve months. It is more suited to rural life. Norway rats are widespread and farms, garbage dumps, supermarkets, domestic houses, grain food storage facilities, sewers and many other locations that offer food and shelter. When noticed outside they can be found living in a burrow in banks of streams, under buildings and under rubbish heaps. They establish traveling routes and can take a few days to adjust when disturbed. Most nests in buildings are found in the wall void, roof void and other parts of a building that are secretive, undisturbed, with access to food and water. They eat all human and animal foods.
